CSX A900, an extra of A700, heads north on the Cartersville Subdivision near Taylorsville, GA. Leading the 60 car train is EMD GP39-2 4304, originally built as Reading 3414 in December of 1974. Since CSX only rosters 20 of these motors & PSR resulting in the retirement of lesser needed older, worn out, & unique locomotives, these GP39-2’s are likely to be the next locomotives to be retired & sold off, especially upon hearing earlier that day that 5 of them were put into storage earlier that week. Couple that fact with the chance to get an already fairly rare locomotive to begin with running solo with a long train on a line that they rarely run the right direction for lighting on a beautiful day with the good lighting, I’ll gladly take how this one turned out.
