Smoke and sun fill the small cab of Shay #2 at the Cass Shops at the Cass Scenic Railroad on July 5, 2020. Shay #2 is a pacific coast Shay and was built in 1928 for the Mayo Lumber Company of Paldi, Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
According to the Cass Scenic Railroad's website, this Shay packs 38,143 lbs of tractive effort with a whopping maximum speed of 17.8 mph. Her wheel diameter is 36" and her boiler pressure is 200 lbs. Empty, the engine weighs 98 tons with a coal capacity of 5 tons and a water capacity of 3,000 gallons.
From a hint of "Bee" (NKP 765), colorful "Bees" (KCS), "Bees" w/ "attitude", to "Bees" that "sting" your eyes, in their own way they have "Bee" on display! Equipment that "Buzzes" with Yellow & Black colors! ("Bees" can still "Bee" entering this "hive"!)
