The BNSF Chillicothe Sub (former Santa Fe) is well known for following the Des Plaines River. Here, we see a bird's eye view of the BNSF's Joliet Yard, located right on the outskirts of downtown. L CHI105 can be seen going about its switching duties. In the background is the old EJ&E lift bridge #198, which sees a pretty steady amount of traffic on a daily basis. The Joliet Correctional Center, which was opened in 1858, also stands in the background. It was made famous for its use in the 1980 film, "The Blues Brothers" when Joliet Jake was released from the slammer at the beginning of the movie. The Phoenix District is to the left of the photo and was served regularly by the EJ&E. After the CN takeover in 2009, CN continued the tradition and the district is still served.
