LAST TRAIN OUT OF NORTH CREEK? Though I certainly hope it's not the case, this very well may have been the last train out of North Creek, NY, and the last train on the former D&H Adirondack Branch north of Corinth, NY. On Saturday, July 18, 2020, Raven Rail LLC headed north to North Creek using former Alco plant switcher S1 #5 to rescue former D&H Alco RS-36 #5019 and a coach that was most recently used on the defunct Upper Hudson River Railroad. Though the #5 led the equipment move south out of North Creek, it ran around the train at Thurman to shove it the rest of the way south. This provided the unique opportunity to photograph the 5019 "leading" the train over the trestle at Hadley, NY. The crew brought the train to a stop here for a pre-planned photo organized by Kevin Burkholder. If this does indeed end up being the last train to ever cross this bridge, it will have been very appropriate. Obviously, the 5019 is a former D&H engine and this is the former D&H Adirondack Branch, but the 5019 also played a key role in this line's initial revival under the Upper Hudson River Railroad before the Saratoga & North Creek became the operator. Many thanks to Kevin for inviting me to join him for this "mini night photo session" and providing the flash, allowing for this great opportunity to record history!
New York state has the largest number of ALCO diesel locomotives working in everyday service. Here are some of them. Soon I hope to chronicle all of them.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
