"Homecoming: Return of the King"
It's big, it's back, and it's better than ever!
Union Pacific's newest addition to its Steam Program, the massive 4-8-8-4 "Big Boy" #4014, puts on a show for the railfan/foamer congregation at Summit as it works hard to get the 23-car PWCYR2 12 successfully around the curve and up and over Cajon Pass. Five years after Union Pacific hauled the 4014 out of its 52-year slumber at the Pomona Fairplex and whisked it off to Cheyenne, WY for restoration to operation, the engine made its triumphant return to the steel rails of Southern California five years later, this time under its own power. Railfans and passersby alike flocked trackside to witness the King of the Wasatch return to its former home-away-from-home for a round-trip excursion between West Colton and Barstow to benefit the RailGiants Museum, which housed the unit prior to restoration.
