Heading for the high country. Approaching 9,000 ft. MSL and with nearly 7 miles still left to go to make Cumbres Pass, the Cumbres & Toltec's Rotary Outfit is still making steady progress through snow that is less than 2 feet deep, but a tougher slog lies just a few miles ahead. The snow depth at Coxo is at least a foot deeper and up on the pass, the Sno-Tel gauge says well over 4 feet are on the ground, with deeper amounts in drifts.
The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad and the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad are all that remains of the legendary Denver & Rio Grande Western narrow gauge system. Here you'll find some of my favorites from these two beautiful railways.
