It is 4:10 pm, and we can see the shadows crawling across the mainlines as the Winter sun drops behind the 8,000 to 10,000-foot peaks of the San Gabriel Mountains. Unfortunately, this will be the last catch of the day. Heading eastward from Los Angeles to Fort Madison, Iowa, is BNSF Railway Guaranteed Service Intermodal train BNSF Q-LACFTM1-27. This train has the typical consist for this part of the system – a solid set of General Electric diesels. In this case, the quartet consists of ES44DC 7294, ES44DC 7601, ES44C4 6587 and ES44AC 6081. The temperature is dropping as quickly as the sun, and the traffic on Interstate 15 is at a crawl, so we must bid adieu to Cajon Pass. Thanks, Cajon, for a great day photographing in the 9"-12" snow!
