For several years now, SMS Rail Lines--the current operator of the former D&H Albany Main between Voorheesville, NY and Delanson, NY--has operated a Christmas Train to the Village of Altamont's annual Victorian Holiday Celebration. Decorated with Christmas lights, the train departs from the Northeast Industrial Park in Guilderland, picks up Santa en route, and arrives at the former D&H station in Altamont to a large, cheering crowd. People can then board the former Conrail caboose to meet Santa. (Interesting fact: the caboose was actually built new for Conrail.) Here, this year's train sits at Altamont during a snow shower. Special thanks to William Sternitzke for providing the flash, as well as SMS conductor Matt Bushart.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
