Running on the former Western Railway of Alabama, CSX 145 slides around the big curve at Loachapoka as it begins a twelve-mile descent from Piedmont Upland to coastal plain. The leader has been this way many times before, as it is the former Georgia Railroad 755 (delivered 12/72), one of just two GP40-2s on GARR, and the next-to-last diesel delivered in GARR colors. GARR and WofA were closely affiliated (along with Atlanta & West Point) and locos of the three roads were operated as a single fleet.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
