CSX 144 is tucked into the siding as 145 booms past behind the usual B36-7s. Once upon a time Milstead was the location of a junction with the Birmingham and Southeastern Railway which connected Milstead with Tallassee, location of a large cotton mill. Even earlier, the line had been named Union Springs and Northern, and connected Union Springs with Eclectic. A through truss bridge over the Tallapoosa River just north of Milstead was still in place last time I visited (2002?).
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
