Last hurrah for the green Harrimans. Grand Canyon Railway Consolidation #29 makes one of her last southbound charges with five of the green, Harriman-style commuter coaches, just south of the GCR's "North Pole Station" at about MP 15. This was a bit of a sad day for rail enthusiasts, for it was not only the last day in service for Locomotive #29, but also the last time steam would be seen with the Pullman Green Harrimans. The railroad no longer uses these coaches for their regular excursions to the Grand Canyon and a decision was made to paint them a dark blue with red trim, and letter them for Polar Express (TM) since that is now their primary mission....not to mention, a huge money-maker. During our visit, we did see some of these coaches already being stripped and painted for this role. Fortunately, the sun was out for both days of our 2019 Trains Magazine Charter, so we were all able to get plenty of nicely-lit shots to hold as memories of one of the fastest and prettiest steam tourist trains in the US.
