Sitting on the turntable at Union Railroad’s Hall Shops is MP15DC 34. In many ways, this is the Union’s most mysterious locomotive, as it seldom shows up on rosters, which usually show the railroad’s MP15DC roster ending at 33. Fortunately, I had a source that is retired from the URR, and found out that URR MP15DC 13 was their most problematic locomotive and spent more time in the shop than on the road. In the 2000s, MP15DC 16 was involved in an accident that damaged the engine beyond repair. Many of 16’s parts were used to make 13 a more reliable locomotive, and when completed it was renumbered to 34. (Monroeville, Pennsylvania – September 20, 2019).
