In the summer of 1983 train 406 was now known as DWPRA (DWP-Proviso manifest), and pretty much originated in Symington Yard at Winnipeg, MB on CN. Soon CN through GTW would make a go for the bankrupt Milwaukee Road, which CNW helped prevent. It cost CNW though, and they ended up using trackage rights on WC's former Soo main from Duluth. Successor UP still uses the rights, but the trackage is now CN. CN won their desired access to Chicago by acquiring DMIR and WC. This line was sold to now Wisconsin Northern and now sees unit sand trains, loaded not far south of this photo.
