The Wisconsin State Capitol building looms in the distance, as WAMX 4187, the "Grow Wisconsin" locomotive, pounds the diamond at MX. Madison used to have over 20 railroad diamonds. This is the only one left, probably because it is located literally in the middle of Lake Monona. It's hard for the city to overtake sections of railroad that are built on a causeway.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
