The streetcar number 4002 was built by the Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (German for Swiss Industry Company), or SIG, ordered in August 1973, delivered in 1978. Ten Swiss models were ordered, classed as L-1, but that order was cut down to six, which is why there are no CLRVs numbered 4006-4009. They were designed to replace the aging PCC fleet. In 1984, #4002 was celebrating Toronto's 150th birthday (1834-1984) by wearing a special paint scheme.
