Another railway line of Chile, which was partly destroyed by the heavy floods in august 2015, was the "Tocopilla" of the "Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile" from Tocopilla to Maria Elena (1067 mm gauge or 3 ft 6 in). The railway line was shut down in november 2015 and road traffic took over. In april 2012, two of the new delivered locomotives of the SQM, built by Casagrande Motori in Santiago, are rounding the curve "Pacific View" high above the town of Tocopilla on the line up to Barriles. The grade is continously 4.0 % and the train is more than 300 meter above sea level now, about 8 kilometer after departure.
