Newly rebuilt NS 1800 rounds the Woodbridge S curve on Conrail's Port Reading Secondary. This engine was rebuilt from NS 2537, a standard cab SD70. It received a new EMD designed widecab, DC to AC traction conversion, and a new electrical cabinet. But most notably it got fresh new paint. The special paint job was applied to the first two engines (1800-1801) to be completed in this rebuild program. The yellow is to commemorate Caterpillar, the parent company of EMD/Progress Rail. Seen here its leading loaded oil train 66Z on its first run in revenue service after being released from Altoona only a few days earlier.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
