”Hang On Big Guy, I’ll Get You to the Retirement Home”
After over two years of retirement in Amtrak’s care, GG1 4935, which was the original “heritage unit”, made its move to its permanent home at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania. Two Amtrak “pumpkin” GP7’s pulled the Juniata-built motor from Wilmington, Delaware, travelling up the NEC to Philadelphia and tthen west on the main line to the Strasburg interchange at Leamon Place. Strasburg GE 44-tonner 33 did the honors getting the GG1 to the museum. Here the two center-cabs are seen climbing the grade at Cherry Hill.
