In early 1979 the MBTA leased Amtrak E9 434 for Boston commuter service. On a spring morning, it swung through the superelevated curve at the former Riverside station in Newton, MA, with a Framingham-Boston train. The ex-Milwaukee Road unit could certainly use a bath!
The 70's and 80's were a transition period for the MBTA characterized by an eclectic mix of equipment including Budd RDC's, ex-New Haven stainless steel coaches, and a mix of motive power acquired from various railroads.
