Six years after Amtrak concluded an unsuccessful evaluation of Bombardier's LRC equipment, a VIA LRC set showed up in Boston's South station as part of a high speed rail demonstration sponsored by the Coalition of Northeastern Governors and in particular by Michael Dukakis of Massachusetts. Along with an imported Spanish Talgo set powered by a pair of Rohr Turbo power cars (in the background at left), it made a fast trip to Providence, RI, for politicians and members of the press on a rainy morning, later conducting some further test runs on the Shore Line. The LRC was still "no sale" for Amtrak, but the Talgo would fare better.
