In January of 2016, the Union Pacific Railroad was performing large work windows along their southern transcon route, the Sunset Route, resulting in the line being closed. UP was able to detour a handful of their trains over the BNSF line. The UP trains would join the BNSF at Sweetwater, TX and would run to Dagget, CA; where UP trackage rights kick in on the BNSF. On January 10th, on of UP's heavy IDILB (Intermodal from Dallas Intermodal, TX to Long Beach ITCF, CA) slowly grinds up the grade up the eastern slope of the divide to the 7,300' high summit.
