Took a stop by the Eastern Illinois Railroad Company's "headquarters" in Charleston, IL yesterday. Not expecting to run into anyone, I talked to their manager for over an hour about operations, maintenance, and just general RR stuff. This railroad has some quite interesting info behind them being just a 52.6 mile long shortline.
The 4541 is actually not quite broken, but it is. It has a bad crank and wouldn't be worth fixing, as it would take as much as the loco is worth just to fix it. It can start up, but they don't want to use it as it would just break it even more. It's now used for parts.
In the background are their two other originally painted units, holding down the pit while they use their "Cadillacs," their two leasers that they have, a few towns up in Oakland.
Just a warning, I wouldn't go back around the engine pit without permission, as they have cameras guarding every corner due to horn thefts. - 10/20/17
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
