CNW Alco C628 no. 6720 and mate arrive in Altoona Yard for a crew change and some switching with train 406 from Itasca (Superior), WI. The big Alcos came from Norfolk & Western and were the heaviest locos on the railroad at the time, outweighing CNW's SD45s. They were quite common on the Twin Cities Division the first couple years on the CNW. They then moved to Upper Michigan and handled ore trains for CNW replacing aging FM H-16-66s.
