Working the hump at Union Pacific's JR Davis Yard in Roseville, California, is "SD38-2" 2841, named for Vencil Brown. This repowered SD40-2 began life in April 1979 as Missouri Pacific 3275. Following the UP-MP-WP merger in 1983, this engine became UP 4275. On November 7, 1992, this engine was converted to a B-unit, relegated to trailing status (and, thus, numbered UP B4275). Completed on February 3, 1999, UP B4275 was rebuilt by UP to SD38-2 2841. On March 11, 2001, it was working with "SD38-2" 2840. This locomotive is named for Vencil Brown, a long-time, much admired history teacher in Roseville. He retired in 1999 after a 41-year career.
