The Pyle Headlight is basically the same design used on some late steam engines. Some of the pneumatic appliances on this engine are also shared with some of the era's external combustion locomotives.
To put this into perspective, the steam locomotive I was chasing a month to the day prior to this, N&W 611, was built 8 years after this diesel in 1950.
