This era didn't last long enough. Once the UP got the SP and CNW, things got mixed up. Here a northbound Spineline train passes thru Bradford. The train is working between Nevada, IA, and Mason City, IA. The big flare 45's were pretty cool seeing them lead in Iowa.
The leader was originally built in 1967, then rebuilt in 1982 in what the SP called its General Rehabilitation and Improvement Program, or GRIP. The UP didn't keep these beasts long as they started retiring between December 1996 and January 2002. These units they never seen any UP renumbers. This one lasted alittle long making to March 17, 2000 before being retired.
The EMD SD (special duty) series are a strong and reliable kind of locomotive which still serve America's rails today. They have proved themselves reliable by clocking in several million miles of freight service over several decades.
