Early on a humid morning, the usual deep-south haze combines with fog rising from Mobile Bay to obscure distant objects. In the ex-GM&O yard below Telegraph Road, a crew uses an all ex-IC locomotive set (two Paducah rebuilds and a GP40) to ready their train for a trip up the Beaumont District to Hattiesburg. The Southern yard is right next door, and one of their diesels can be seen at their outdoor engine facility in the distance.
Photos taken in the Deep South--primarily Alabama and Georgia--from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Featured railroads include the ICG, the West Point Route, SCL, Southern, Frisco, and even KCS.
