TennKen Railroad's rare GP28 NÂș9435 stands under the shed in Dyersburg, Tennessee with it's two sister units near by. The GP28 was not a successful model for EMD, the series only resulted in 31 units produced. Somewhat ahead of it's time, they were nothing more than a GP18 in the then new car-body with a more complex electrical system. With the GP9 and GP18 models still in wide use which further launched EMD into the market, there was nothing for the GP28 to replace when the model was introduced in 1964 only months after GP18 production ended, which began in 1959 . The TennKen or "TinCan" as I've referred to the carrier still offers three such models in revenue service, 9433, 9434, & 9435. All three of former Illinois Central heritage.
