AirTrain Meet
Inbound and outbound AirTrain consists meet just east of the Newark Airport Station. At left, through distortion caused by curved windows, is Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. The overpass carries Haynes Avenue over these very active rail lines. At this location the monorail right-of-way built over land that once contained part of Pennsylvania Railroad's Waverly Yard. There is very little evidence of this yard left today, except for stray catenary poles in the weeds or in parking lots adjacent to the NEC. The Newark Airport Station facilitates connections between NJ Transit, Amtrak and the AirTrain. This monorail connects all terminals and several airport parking lots with the regional rail network. Operation is automated, hence this "engineer's view" from the first car in which I was the only occupant on this beautiful Sunday afternoon.
