It was twenty years ago... BNSF was a brand new railroad. I worked at Kalmbach Publishing Co. as their corporate art director. On a whim, I sent Robert Krebs, then BNSF's CEO a drawing suggesting a paint scheme. They sent me a release of rights and did a test SD60M. Then, Heritage I evolved and behold, the first quartet of Dash 9s arrived on Cicero, IL from GE. Friend and co-worker Tom Danneman and I dispatched ourselves to capture this moment, and here is the 964 and mates. As I recall, they were sent right back to GE for some adjustments and entered service a short while later. So the one scheme I had a bit of interaction with was on board, but only until Mr. Krebs decided he wanted something more intense, thus creating Heritage II. Thankfully Heritage I lasted through EMD road switcher repaints and into the wedge scheme on those units.
Photos taken on or around important historical moments - the first runs of various locomotive models, the day before/of big mergers, or other big historical events, etc.
Not
just heritage schemes, not just commemorative schemes - this album is devoted to some of the world's most interesting paint schemes, past or present.
