Only the train has changed (almost) – Take away the modern station sign and the wooden pole for communications equipment, and this scene has all of the exterior trappings of a classic train order office. The cantilever signal, semaphore train order board, train order hoops with gooseneck lamp for nighttime illumination, and the substitution of a C&O Kanawha for a Nickel Plate Berkshire make a scene that was an everyday occurrence forty years prior. Alas, the Berkshire was dressed as a Kanawha on a later edition of the New River Train a few years later, but Handley was no longer a train order station by that time.
