When They Were New: If you spent any time along Union Pacific mainlines in 1997, you likely witnessed new EMD SD9043MACs on UP trains. UP 8096 and UP 8140 pull a 47 car AHNOA through Riverton on the former Rio Grande on June 20, 1997. In less than two months, the UP pulled the plug on Tennesee Pass and trains like this would disappear from the old D&RGW, rerouted via the Overland Route through Wyoming west to Northern California.
