It's the day after Christmas, 1985, and the D&H is coming back to life after the holiday shutdown. The Belden Hill line is closed due to a tunnel enlargement project, so all northbound trains are being routed east over Conrail's former Erie line to Lanesboro, where they turn south over the Jefferson connection to the original D&H main. Once they are on the D&H, the trains reverse direction to head to Oneonta. To accomplish this reverse move, a set of helpers pulls the train from Binghamton to the D&H main, while the road power is trailing. Today's helpers are five Maine Central GE's. The three U25B's in the classic MEC yellow are joined by two ex-D&H U23B's newly transferred from the D&H.
This gallery contains photos of equipment and properties that became, were and used to be part of the Delaware & Hudson Railway. This gallery also contains photos of equipment paying tribute to the D&H or its predecessors.
