Remnants of a wreck that occurred on May 17, 2006, is still being cleaned up by contract crews two days later at Lakeside, Nebraska, on BNSF’s Sand Hills Subdivision. An eastbound BNSF coal train led by No. 8814 seen in the background, ran an intermediate signal with a red aspect and plowed into the rear of another coal load, with obvious results. The trailing locomotive of the train, along with a rear DPU on the train hit, were also damaged. No. 8814 was later repaired and ran around for quite a while with a lot of red primer visible. Hopper TXUX No. 990553 was one of seven cars that also derailed and were destroyed.
