Laramie was once a busy terminal, where eastbounds picked up helpers for the climb over Sheman Hill and westbounds dropped them off. But four years after the last Union Pacific steam engine tied up here, Extra 15 East, behind one of the road’s 30 big 10,000-hp General Electric turbines, will barely pause as it eases along South 1st Street and out of town. The street has a gaudy history as home of Laramie’s once-thriving red light district.
