Early on a sunny spring morning, the northbound Blue Train from Cape Town to Pretoria is 45 minutes ahead of schedule, as it runs alongside the R502 between Leeudoringstad and Orkney, heading towards its next stop at Klerksdorp. This is Blue Train set no. 2, which is 14 coaches in length and carries 52 passengers. Since the dual voltage class 14E's were withdrawn from Blue Train service, classes 18E (3kV DC) and 7E (25kV AC) have taken over. More recently, the 18E's allocated to work these trains have been the newer locomotives wearing the TFR red livery, such as these two from the 800 series.
