Under another golden California sunset, a rare BNSF Gevo leads a Barstow-bound manifest under the iconic (and now, sadly, long-gone) Southern Pacific cantilever signal bridge at Sandcut. The water irrigating the apple trees in the background has had a long journey as well, having been diverted out of the Sacramento River hundreds of miles away, pumped up and over the 5,000ft Tehachapi mountains, and then channeled down into the San Joaquin Valley via a man-made concrete aqueduct.
