On a hot June day in the desert of eastern Washington, four SD9043MAC's and a CP ES44AC lead a northbound manifest up the remote and scenic Palouse River Canyon at Park between Joso and Hooper on UP's Ayer Sub. When we heard the issuing of a track warrant for a northbound to proceed from Joso up the canyon towards us (meaning the train was only ten minutes away), we were in completely the wrong location, over a mile to the south of this vantage. I made the quick decision to put my varsity cross country skills into use, and began running northward along the canyon wall, through several ravines and a risky encounter with a rattlesnake. By the time I started setting up my tripod for this photo, the train was already rolling onto the bridge at track speed of 40 MPH.
