Reflecting the last moments of bright sunshine on September 1, 1998, Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight MPUELAU (Pueblo, Colo. to Laurel, Mont. manifest) glides along the calm waters of the Boysen Reservoir just before entering the shadowed depths of Wind River Canyon west of Piper, Wyoming. The colorful, eclectic “all former Santa Fe” motive power for the train is EMD SD40-2 “snoot” No. 6338 in Heritage I paint, an EMD GP7 No. 1639 still dressed Santa Fe, and GE LRCX (Livingston Rebuild Center) No. 9556, a former U36C rebuilt by Santa Fe into a SF30C.
