A Durban bound Coal Train, with 18-201 at the front, passes under the old footbridge at Cedara Station in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. This train has slowed down to the 30km an hour speed restriction for this section and will shortly enter the second longest tunnel/s, the Cedara Tunnels, in South Africa at the start of the steep drop down into Pietermaritzburg. The twin Cedara Tunnels were built in 1960 and are 6km's long. They were the longest tunnels in South Africa until 1989, when Tunnel 4 on the Hex River pass was opened.
