Double Stacked Boxcars ~ On the morning of March 8, 2005, Union Pacific's daily West Colton to Los Nietos Manifest (MWCLN-08) with 3 units (UP 2474 leader) and 48 loads was heading westbound through the City of Industry, CA. At Mile Post 20.1, running at 42 MPH, the 14th through 33rd cars derailed over a broken rail roughly 200 feet west of the Fullerton Road grade crossing. 3 derailed tank cars contained Propelene Glycol, hence the impromptu reflecting pool in the foreground. Witnesses to the derailment reported that, "it sounded like a freight train." The mainline was closed for some 24 hours while the 20 derailed cars were all cleared from the right of way and the several hundred feet of ripped up track was repaired. No injuries were reported during or immediately after the derailment.
