I had been due to fly to Eritrea next week for my fourth trip to the country and its wonderful railway, but sadly the line has been damaged by recent heavy rainfall and the tour has had to be cancelled. So for now it's back to the pictures of previous trips, such as this one from a marvellous morning photo session above the village of Hinzi. The view is looking towards the coast, where the line originates in the port of Massawa, but during the winter months this normally lies under a blanket of cloud. Fortunately for the photographer, at almost 7500 feet up the air is cool and clear and the clouds often keep their distance.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
