Built in 1928 by the legendary Pullman-Standard company 'Virginia City' first known as the 'Crystal Peak' was assigned to ply the rails of the SP-UP-C&NW between Oakland, CA and Chicago, IL bringing up the markers of the Overland Limited. 85 years later the Virginia City returns to the rails of the Overland route this time bringing up the markers of Amtrak's westbound California Zephyr after spending a weekend in Reno, NV during their Hot August Nights. The classic pines of the high Sierra's and Donner Lake provide the backdrop for #5 as it works up the eastern slope of Donner Pass, having just emerged from the west portal of tunnel 42, near Andover, CA.
