The Last Conrail! Waiting for this unit to leave Montreal was painful. Spending a few days at Tasch Yard, it finally departed, and spent a few more in Toronto's MacMillan Yard. With word from a CN employee it was finally on its way August 7th, I set out for first light, only to receive information that it had passed just shortly before my arrival in Hamilton. Making my way along York Road to Aldershot Yard, I passed Bayview Jct, noticing a CN manifest. A quick turn around revealed what I really saw. 421 departed shortly after with a fairly decent lashup. Due to heavy traffic on Hamilton's roads, it got well ahead of me, so the highway provided the last chance to bag the final Conrail-painted SD40-2. Operating for the NECR, it's bound for Pittsburgh to be repaired and repainted to proper colors. Farewell Conrail!
