The midday African sun beats down on CFM No.572 at a wayside halt on the ramshackle branch line from Inhambane. The little woodburner is in light steam - see the smoke curling from the firebox - as it waits for its train of gons to be loaded with sand for a soccer pitch back in the city. The cap on the chimney, however, shows that the crew are not hoping to be on their way any time soon, and in fact the engineer was asleep under a nearby tree when this shot was taken. This was probably the last train the Porter ever hauled. Now she is "preserved" at Inhambane and the line is closed.
