Mainline Steam NZ Steam Tour heads for Gisborne with Ka 942 - seen here near Nuhaka with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop. This section of line was closed in March 2012 after storm damage and the line was further cut back to Napier several months later so this was the last steam trip over the whole line.
Mainline Steam Heritage Trust operates steam specials throughout New Zealand from depots in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Each year an inter-island Steam Tour attracts fans from around the world. For more visit www.mainlinesteam.co.nz
