On a late night Amtrak Pacific Surfliner, a conductor looks out the window as we pull into the last station stop, Downtown, San Diego. He calls the station on his radio to let mechanical and baggage know that they are arriving. He also keeps an eye out for trespassers to make sure that the tracks are safe to proceed and that no one is in harms way.
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
