Stanier 'Black Five' 4-6-0 No 44870 pilots Fowler three-cylinder 'Patriot' 4-6-0 No 45515 Caernarvon over Saddleworth viaduct with the 5pm Liverpool Lime Street to Newcastle express on a September evening in 1956. They are passing over the Huddersfield & Ashton Canal and will have just passed the junction for the Delph branch line - formerly home of the 'Delph Donkey'.
