Railroad photography is always interesting on partly cloudy days since one never knows if the sun will be shining or subdued by a cloud when the train arrives and it's time to press the shutter button. Sun or no sun, I was going to shoot train 15E either way and as the train approached, I was sure it would be a cloudy shot. BUT... at the very last moment, a "sucker hole" breaks through the clouds and offers me a nice ray of sunlight on only the cab and forward portion of the lead engine! I've shot thousands of photos of trains, but I don't believe I've ever had a "light" experience quite like this. I ran this photo through a couple different editing programs and while I was able to illuminate the trailing units and train better, my eyes and mind kept going back to my original edit, which you see above. The icing on the cake is three EMD wide-cabs running elephant-style. For those who might want to know, the second unit is UP 2280, an SD60M built in 1989, and the third is UP 4921, which is another SD70M built in 2002 under the same order number as the leading SD70M 4859.
