It had been a long night for the crew on southbound manifest No. 105 as it was grinding up Rutherglen Hill at Colemans Mill, VA on January 15, 1982. They had already made several set offs pick ups since leaving Potomac Yard and they still had to make a set off at Doswell, before getting at clear shot at Acca Yard in Richmond. Sarcastically referred to as the "Golden Run" by train crews, it was the least favorite way to get back home. As much as they hated the train, I loved it. It was always a favorite to photograph, coming into the sweet morning light as it got close to Richmond.
